About Research

Bucktoe Creek Preserve is composed of a variety of habitats and is equipped with high-end weather and stream monitoring equipment making it a perfect location for natural systems research. A real-time Delaware Environmental Observing System, which gathers and archives meteorological conditions, is located in one of our upper meadows. Data collection at this station began in January 2008. A similar weather station sits in one of our oldest woodlands where it measures conditions under the canopy. Within the same woods, which makes up the eastern portion of the watershed of our highest-quality stream, is a nine-inch flume that records stream flow every 15 minutes. This is useful for correlating stream response to precipitation within the watershed. We also have a sub-meter GPS unit, a stream monitoring sonde and GIS data in various formats.
