Arboretum

The arboretum at Bucktoe Creek Preserve encompasses fifteen acres and is situated at the center of the preserve. Over seventy species of native trees, shrubs, and woody vines have been planted and pruned in a naturalistic fashion. Our goal is to have at least three specimens of each tree species native to Chester County, Pennsylvania present in the arboretum. Species such as white oak (Quercus alba), black walnut (Juglans nigra), and tulip-poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) fall into this category. We have also included species that are regionally native, such as yellow birch (Betula alleghaniensis), and species that have some significance in relation to the post-agricultural landscape, such as black locust (Robinia psuedo-acacia).
