Connect the beautiful worlds of nature and yoga! Perfect for students of any level, each class will end with a guided meditation, incorporating the calm of the natural world, relaxing the body and awakening the senses. Bring your own mat.
Walk the 300-acre Bucktoe Creek Preserve to find and identify fall blooming wildlflowers such as several species of goldenrod, aster, and some rare species. Some of these are confusing and closely related species that will be sorted out by Janet, a professional botanist.
Accompany a licensed bird bander during fall songbird migration. Witness the procedure of taking birds out of mist nets, weighing and measuring, as well as aging, sexing, banding, and assisting with the release of songbirds. We will probably catch year-round resident birds such as titmice and chickadees, but may also catch migrants such as warblers, vireos, flycatchers, thrushes and other songbirds. This program meets at the Bucktoe Creek Preserve. Bring your camera for good "in-the-hand" photos.
Program meets at Bucktoe Creek Preserve parking area.
Description:
Identify and learn the natural history of the little-known mosses and liverworts with a local authority on the topic. Start your experience at the Bucktoe Creek Preserve and take a slow-paced walk to identify several species. After lunch, travel to another nearby area to see species that live in cool, north-facing slopes and ravines. Bring a lunch and a drink, and meet at the Bucktoe Creek Preserve. All participants will receive a free copy of the author's book.
Join the birding competition/party! Compete in the international Big Sit competition hosted by Bird Watcher's Digest and count the bird species seen in a day from our 17-foot diameter circle. Food and drink will be available at each location.
